The Story

Most hard conversations fail for the same reason: the two people in them are talking past each other. One is still in the argument. The other is defending against an argument that hasn't happened yet.

Repaired is a structured, private process for two people to work through conflict at their own pace, with enough space between messages that defensiveness can settle before a response gets written.

The protocol is built on peer-reviewed research in communication science, attachment theory, and conflict resolution, the same bodies of research that inform professional therapeutic frameworks. The structure exists because unstructured hard conversations tend to escalate; structured ones tend not to.

It is not therapy. It is not couples counseling. It is a protocol, the kind of structure that lets two people have a hard conversation without the conversation becoming another thing to recover from.

Boilerplate

For use in articles, podcast show notes, and social media posts:

Repaired is a free web app that guides two people through a structured, private conflict repair process. Built on peer-reviewed relationship and communication research, Repaired provides a step-by-step protocol for any two people who want to understand each other after a conflict. Not a therapist, not a mediator, just a structured process. Available at repairedapp.com; Android and iOS apps are in development.

Framing guidance

Common framing issues that misrepresent what Repaired is:

Avoid: "A therapy app" or "AI therapy"

Prefer: "A structured conflict repair protocol" or "a communication process"

Repaired is not therapy. No licensed practitioner is involved. Calling it therapy could mislead users with clinical needs into not seeking real help.

Avoid: "Relationship AI" or "AI-powered relationship help"

Prefer: "A structured, private process" or "a protocol for two people"

The core repair flow is rule-based, not AI. AI features are an optional paid add-on, Repaired Plus, and are not the product.

Avoid: "Fixes relationships" or "saves your relationship"

Prefer: "Helps two people work through conflict" or "provides a process for repair"

Repaired cannot guarantee outcomes. Any framing that implies a guarantee misrepresents the product.

Avoid: "For couples" only

Prefer: "For any two people"

Repaired works for romantic partners, friends, family members, and coworkers. Limiting it to couples understates who it helps.

Founder

Thomas Zinn

Founder & CEO, Repaired

Thomas Zinn built Repaired after years of watching intelligent, well-meaning people fail at conflict, not because they didn't care, but because they had no structure to follow when the conversation got hard. He designed the Repaired protocol as a practical synthesis of peer-reviewed communication and relationship research, built for people who want to repair, not relitigate.

Common misconceptions

Three things get written about Repaired that are not accurate. We would rather correct them here than after publication.

It is not an AI therapist. The core repair protocol is rule-based and free, with no model in the loop. AI is a paid add-on that reflects patterns back from a person’s own repairs and answers, and can suggest a gentler wording of something they wrote. It does not run the process and it never speaks to the other person on anyone’s behalf.

It is not a messaging app. By default, each person writes their side privately before reading the other’s. That is structural rather than a privacy setting, and it is the single design decision the rest of the product is built around.

It is not only for couples. The protocol works for any two people with a relationship worth repairing: friends, siblings, adult children and parents, coworkers. Describing it as a couples app covers a subset.
